NOCON are a two-piece DIY art-punk outfit from Melbourne. Their members comprise of Jamie Timony (These New South Whales, MOSSY) and Jake O'Brien. The band took their name from an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which Jerry Seinfeld refers to Larry David as a "NOCON"—the opposite of an icon. Friends since childhood, NOCON began in the midst of Melbourne's stringent lockdown, with Timony and O'Brien sending each other stems back and forth to keep themselves entertained. Their signature lo-fi, scuzzy bedroom recordings adorned with crusty YouTube rips and tongue in cheek samples earned them a loyal fanbase in 2020, with widespread national airplay and attention from international tastemakers, NME.
