Noiduin (I cast a spell) is a Finnish Dark Folk act hailing from Pori, located on the Western coast of Finland.
Drawing inspiration from Finnish mythology and folklore, their songs are often based on ancient Finnish spell poems. One of the focal points and a big part of Noiduin's charm are the self-built traditional intruments like talharpa, kantele and witchdrums which together create an otherwordly atmosphere.
Founded in 2020 by multi-instrumentalist Jemina, debut EP Korven kolkon kainalossa was self-released in 2022. Henri, originally a guest vocalist from his own project Myrrys, joined officially in 2023, and Alinen EP followed in September. As live performance requests grew, Henri brought in drummer Mikko, followed by Matilda as a multi-instrumentalist. The group debuted live at Pakanalliset Syysmessut in Helsinki, October 2023. In 2024, they met Aila, a Viking reenactor whose passion aligned with the band. She joined as bassist and backing vocalist, enriching their sound.
Throughout this period, the passion for instrument-building continued to grow. Noiduin now performs with a wide range of handmade instruments, including various types of jouhikkos, drums, and rattles. The band’s blend of ancient folk instruments and modern musical sensibilities continues to captivate audiences, as they forge a path that honors the traditions of their Finnish roots while pushing the boundaries of what folk music can be.
