Noku is a daughter to Mr Lechaba Jacob & Mrs Zoliwe Mvulazana Dlamini, sister to 3 brothers and 1 sister, granddaughter, and aunt. Born in Welkom, South Africa on June 4th.
A year after high school- I left my family behind in 2002 to be an au-pair in America to a family in overland Park, Kansas. I lived in Overland Park with the Ellis-Rech family with their 3 children. I credit this family to my love of the United States and when they asked me to stay after the au-pair program ended, I was pleased and accepted.
In 2004 I left to pursue a future in Houston, TX. In Houston I met another family- the McCarthy family. I believe only God made this happen because Mr. Jeff McCarthy made sure I honored my immigration status and welcomed me into his family. All I was required to do was care for the kids while he was on business trips and go to school myself. They made sure I felt at home and was treated just like family. I went on to get my bachelors degree and my music career now.
How my music started - the earliest memory I have of singing was my dad always asking me to sing for him and family. i loved how he'd look at me while i was doing what i loved. After seeing the movie "Boys in the Hood" I was intrigued by the USA. So this moment has been long overdue- 12 years to be exact.
My songs are a combination of my Mzansi roots and my life in America. I believe they are a depiction of who I am.
In summary: I am you and you are me- different experiences, yet strong and relevant.
