The nostalgic folk rock duo members, Mani Shimmers and Marcel B., grew up in the countryside of North-West Germany, only a few kilometers apart from one another having no idea of each other’s existence. Both felt that the peace and quiet of their home towns allowed for their reflective moods to grow, and, at the same time; they both always craved for bigger avenues of expression. This is made evident in their songs. Their views from the inside out and outside in, slightly out of focus, are present in their always somehow alienated songs.
In the search for a musical language Shimmers and Marcel B. dipped their toes into different music scenes in the USA and Germany until they met in 2017. Equipped with their love for acoustic guitars they set out to play the streets and bars of Berlin. When they realized that their songs were meant to sound like a full band set-up they decided to go into the recording studio giving shape to their first full album that will be released over the course of the next year.
The songs by Numbers Don’t Count are a carefully crafted invitation to explore some crucial questions through stories. They are snapshots of life set on the backdrop of Berlin and seen through the beauty and grime of its streets and its people. The duo loves their melody-driven guitars, vocal harmonies and a pinch of sonic nostalgia. There are half playful-half serious narrations that don’t give up on the opportunity to make fun of the ironies of life.
