Oak Hill Road
Atmospheric, catchy, touching – that’s how the sound of the Augsburg, Germany based folk music duo Oak Hill Road is often described. The down to earth instrumentation allows the original songs themselves to stand in the spotlight. The music style is somewhere in between folk music, old time country, and bluegrass.
The concentration towards the essential parts of the music highlights the directness of the expression in the songs and the interpretation just the same. In times of a world that seems to be turning faster by the day, the music gives a feeling of connectedness – with the air we breathe, with the soil we stand on, and with stories as old as mankind, shared by many: about life, of course, with its countless different sides – happiness, humor, and love but also sinister apprehensions and fear. The listener just can’t resist this simple, pure, timeless music.
As children of a zeitgeist of internationalization, it seemed natural for the two German musicians to write and sing their songs in English. This is neither vanity nor rodeo-raging America-fixation. It is rather the attempt to express the extension of one’s own cultural possibilities in a world, in which the own identity is less destined by the place of birth but rather by personal decision.
“The Willow Confessions” is the name of the debut album of Oak Hill Road as well as the title of the 2017/2018 tour.
