Born Osei Hubbard in June of 1998, Philadelphia-born and bred artist O$EI (FKA O) has been on the rise and is continually gaining traction. What started as regular church choir appearances and lessons in saxophone and piano has morphed into a genre-bending and bar-stringing career as an artist. First intrigued with the popular early-to-mid 2000s alternative rock and emo punk/pop scene, O$EI was fixated on the vocal stylings of singers like Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams and the songwriting techniques of Panic! at the Disco and their frontman Brendon Urie. Soon after O$EI tried his own hand at songwriting and rapping, skills that have monumentally progressed since then from countless hours of practice and repetition. O$EI polished his skill in freestyling and locating melodies to a point of incomparability to his peers and used this newfound energy and ability to construct calculated bars and craft his own unique lane in the stylings of melodic trap and trap hip-hop. Now O$EI has begun to release music that is inherently Philly and inherently himself...but also “for everyone”, as he states. As his journey continues, O$EI’s trademarked charisma and exuberance will permeate the realm of popular music. Let the message from his first track under his current and here-to-stay moniker be a siren for the culture: “I’m On”. - (Rohan Suriyage)
