Craig Klein, founder of Chicago electronic rock band The Race, began recording and releasing music as Ohr (pronounced “or”) in 2020. Klein’s electronic psych project took its name from the German word for ear (and record label of Tangerine Dream,) and a Hebrew word meaning light.
The 2021 Ohr debut double album, Walk in the Light, was written, performed and produced by Klein at his Seattle studio. The Vinyl District described Walk in the Light as, “Impresssively disciplined and a pleasure to hear...Ohr maintains a consistency throughout, which is both refreshing and borderline remarkable.”The album was followed by the Mohr EP which reimagined Walk in the Light tracks as extended 12” mixes and pointed in a more electronic direction.
Afterglow, out 8.30.24, takes this approach even further. Inspired by remixes by the likes of Andy Weatherall and classic dance music, Klein constructed the album recording and sampling his own performances and shaping them into new forms. Utilizing an array of vintage samplers, synths, and vocal processors, Afterglow arrives as essentially a remix of an album that never existed.
Afterglow will be preceded by a series of singles, each featuring a non-album b-side. The first single to be released is Red Pill which is backed by a remix of the track from Sonic Boom (Spacemen 3, Spectrum, EAR, Panda Bear and Sonic Boom.)
