OK Android was born one spontaneous night of jamming among high school friends. Out of four songs created, one stood out — their debut single, “Hey!” With a sound designed to be easy to listen to, a little danceable, and just slightly otherworldly, OK Android blends indie rock with experimental flavors.
The band draws inspiration from acts like <a href="spotify:artist:270BokezkycFfTTlGEKVKZ" data-name="Pedicab">Pedicab</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5tI0Vj2FhioY8AKtEqu9d3" data-name="Foxboro Hottubs">Foxboro Hottubs</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0WPY9nnBy01s5QOt4o4oQX" data-name="Ride">Ride</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0SD7JVzyurgoDuwbsw3xrx" data-name="The Mongols">The Mongols</a>, and <a href="spotify:artist:16eRpMNXSQ15wuJoeqguaB" data-name="The Flaming Lips">The Flaming Lips</a>. Rany Raccoon adds his own twist, influenced by the dreamy textures of Japanese City Pop and Rock, bringing subtle, spacey layers to the music.
Jany Ligutan, also a member of indie pop group <a href="spotify:artist:5sqGA9ELDpJqRt5DttkNE3" data-name="Sunflower Station">Sunflower Station</a> and formerly of Viva Records’ <a href="spotify:artist:1smJFvQUr0IP7SsFrEbIze" data-name="The Bed Bites">The Bed Bites</a>, is a singer, songwriter, and guitarist. Refusing to be boxed into one genre, Jany reunited with his old bandmates to explore new musical ground with OK Android.
Rany Raccoon, a visual artist and analog photographer, provides the band’s psychedelic edge. His dreamy guitar riffs yet simple are a defining element of OK Android’s sound.
The band's session bassist is Jarell Randall, who also plays for <a href="spotify:artist:6YFBC3n9hUAQ8KnJRFSqtA" data-name="Rob Equiza">Rob Equiza</a>. Collaborators from <a href="spotify:artist:5sqGA9ELDpJqRt5DttkNE3" data-name="Sunflower Station">Sunflower Station</a> — Neil Yap and Don Davis — contributed additional sonic textures, while Bena Rada handled mixing, mastering, and added synths to “Hey!”
With more songs lined up for release, “Hey!” marks just the beginning of OK Android’s sonic journey.
