OK Carol is Ellen Kilcup (cello), Katie Clum (vocals and songwriting), Aaron McConkey (guitar & production), and Clark Rhee (drums, keys, and production). Formed in 2016, OK Carol began as a "music crush" between Katie & Ellen and expanded into a series of music projects.
OK Carol's first album, Orwell: Songs from 84', was released in March of 2019. Orwell consists of a series of intentionally selected cover songs originally released in the year 1984. The atmospheric mood and lyrical theme of the album is derived from George Orwell's acclaimed dystopian novel. Though the album's sound prioritizes the melodic interplay between cello and vocal lines, Orwell boasts enough 80s pop "fairy dust" to pay appropriate homage to its inspiration and also feel delightfully unexpected in its instrumentation.
In December of 2020, OK Carol released the holiday EP An OK Christmas Carol. The EP consists of four poignant cover songs chosen to reflect the particular longings of the 2020 holiday season, as well as one tender original, Ballad for Suppertime.
In fall of 2023, OK Carol gained a new band member in Clark Rhee and released their first full length album of original songs. The album, When Im Taller, is inspired by Americana, folk, and indie rock sounds. Lyrically and thematically the album speaks to some of the many growing pains (& joys) encountered in the Wild West of midlife.
OK Carol is based in Seattle, Washington and Los Angeles, California.
