Old Mate Jackuar

Cairns-born and Bali-raised, 24-year-old rapper Old Mate Jackuar is bringing together his love of hip-hop, pop and R&B to create the sounds that he wants to hear. OMJ has always been around music – but hip-hop was where he saw his creativity blossom.

It was when he moved to Bali that he started making music with his friends. He’s always had a love for music, and began making music in high school. Armed with nothing but Apple earphones and GarageBand, he started making some bedroom recordings to help him express himself. Since then, he’s immersed himself in music, racking up hundreds of thousands of Spotify streams on his debut single ‘Run Away’, and continuing to hone his sound. In 2021 OMJ released his debut album HIGHJACKED, which featured some much loved songs such as Nightmare, Lately and album namesake Highjacked featuring Sydney rapper Inferno. When OMJ’s not in the studio laying down his next verse, he feels at home performing in front of his already-impressive fanbase. He’s already played some huge shows, such as performing at Gypsylands Festival in Bali and Melbourne record label 66 Records' 'On Demand Fest' in Sydney. Old Mate Jackuar has also opened for Chicago’s ‘Warhol’ and toured with Indonesian label ‘Preachja’.

However, that’s just the start for OMJ, and he’s looking forward to 2023. With so much new music ready to put out, he’s hoping to return to stages not just in Australia, but across the world.
