One-Trick Phony is the solo project of David Blanchard; purveyor of hooks, harmonies & existential dread. Formerly in the bands Likewise and Camera Shy Paparazzi during the early-aughts, he returned to making music after a 15-year hiatus releasing five albums within one year.
His debut solo album as One-Trick Phony, Everything is Terrible and Nothing Matters, came out in October 2020. It received critical acclaim upon its release, with people saying things like, "It's music," and "Good for you." His mom liked it a lot.
The sophomore slump consisted of two albums, Good Grief and Life of the Party, released simultaneously in March 2021. The dual-release was a nod to Conor Oberst's 2005 classics I'm Wide Awake It's Morning and Digital Ash in a Digital Urn but no one got that and instead it simply appeared that he had too much time on his hands.
The fourth album, More, was released in June of 2021 at which point his friends and family were really beginning to lose interest.
Finally, V (a.k.a. DENIHILISM) was released in October of 2021. The album was generally considered his creative apex although this cannot be independently verified.
In the years that followed, other creative endeavors tricked out including scoring the Phil Reed RPG HST.3.33, releasing an EP of reimagined holiday classics called Rebel Without a Claus, and the Hits x Misses project where he released a song a week for 15 weeks, all covers of classic songs from some of the most famous women in pop music.
