Orcas is the duo of multi-instrumentalists Benoît Pioulard and Rafael Anton Irisarri, who have created a unique style of textured ambient pop together ever since a chance meeting in Seattle in 2009.
After a hiatus born from various life changes, Irisarri and Pioulard reconvened in New York to start working on new music. Breaking their 10-year silence, the duo returns with “Under the Milky Way,'' a version of the 1988 underground hit by The Church, as a precursor to their upcoming third full-length for Morr Music. Citing peak-era British new wave, dream pop, and impressionism as primary influences on recent work, Orcas give a tantalizing view into their bond as both musicians and friends, as well as the stunning levels of production acuity that Irisarri has developed in recent years with his renowned Black Knoll.
With this latest effort, the duo have brought their quiet vision to its roaring peak, as they consider – in equal measure – the tumult of ocean waves, and the peace of reconciliation.
