Swedish artist Oskar Svalin steps into the limelight with a sultry debut single released through Loud Attic Records. ‘Trampoline’, like many great stories, is a tantalizing tale of hope and heartbreak. An intense musical story arc that plays on the heartstrings from the first bar.
With a moody piano backbone and a gripping string arrangement, Svalin showcases a broad artistic scope, and a maturity that you rarely see in a debut artist, maybe something to do with him becoming a father at 19. Svalin's brooding lyrics keep you firmly in the present delivered through some knock-out high notes, elaborate falsetto harmonies and a raw emotion that’s addictive.
Oskar relies on an eclectic musical background, recalling old influences from childhood family road-trips, or trippy new jazz finds: ”I grew up not caring about genres, and I was constantly exposed to some of the big classics through my dad. I found my own idols in <a href="spotify:artist:1Mxqyy3pSjf8kZZL4QVxS0" data-name="Frank Sinatra">Frank Sinatra</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6kACVPfCOnqzgfEF5ryl0x" data-name="Johnny Cash">Johnny Cash</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:43ZHCT0cAZBISjO8DG9PnE" data-name="Elvis Presley">Elvis Presley</a>. I still listen to them a lot, they’re like uncles to me. But I’ll quite happily switch over to <a href="spotify:artist:2h93pZq0e7k5yf4dywlkpM" data-name="Frank Ocean">Frank Ocean</a> or <a href="spotify:artist:12fRkVfO2fUsz1QHgDAG3g" data-name="Julia Jacklin">Julia Jacklin</a>”.
Svalin’s own life journey and identity as an artist have come together. Reflecting on the music of his own childhood, and the music he wants others to grow up around he says: “I thought a lot about what makes me tick musically, but now that this song is out there - I realise it’s not about me at all. It’s all for the future, for the listener, for people like my son. I guess I'm maturing”.
