Ost & Kjex (Petter Haavik & Tore Gjedrem) are a comic strip brought to life in 4D. Fuelled by a Dadaistic approach to music, art and life, they’ve drawn an international audience to their work with records on Crosstown Rebels and Solomun’s Diynamic.
Petter and Tore bonded over a love of skating. Spurred on by the sounds of Black Metal, Hardcore and Punk, their rebellion found a voice through music. They created a band called Beyond Dawn which evolved over the course of a decade from skate punk to art rock.
Opting for the red pill they became full blow ravers by Y2K, discarding their black garb for a hi-vis color palette and a fully electronic sound. The duo stepped away from the anti-establishment sounds of the early nineties to assume the anti-establishment sounds of the new millennium. A diverse set of influences remained central to their work with everything from Delta Blues and Soul to Noise and experimental electronica informing Ost & Kjex.
On stage, Ost and Kjex continue to travel the world as a live act with stamps from Panorama Bar, Fabric, ADE, Sonar, Rex, and tons of other famous clubs and festivals smudged through their passports. Whether they’re playing with a full gospel choir or a minimal club set, Ost & Kjex bring an indelible energy to the stage as they channel the sounds of their vast discography into jubilant live shows.
Ost & Kjex’s music is now reserved for their own outlet, Snick Snack, a label they started with life-long friends Trulz & Robin.
