The turn of the noughties and tens was an amazing time in Ostrava, the former industrial heart of the Czech Republic. Many local bands took club stages by storm, clearly inspired and energized by then-flourishing indie scene in the UK and US. Outsiders were one of them. Despite their self-deprecating name (adopted without much consideration in 2002 when they started out as an electronic recording-only project), they became a live act worth investigating after the release of the album Out of Sight in 2007.
However, Outsiders didn't merely copy the hugely popular guitar bands of the time. Instead, they came with their own blend of alternative rock and classical instruments such as piano, violin and flute. The next album Pros 'n' Cons (2011), divided into Czech and English parts, was a result of six friends writing and playing together with pure joy.
After the release of Monsters, Inc. (their most ambitious video to date) in 2012, the band slowed down their activity, with the band members focusing on their daily jobs, families and other music projects. Despite this, they re-emerged in 2017 with an EP called MWI, lyrically inspired by Many-Worlds Interpretation of quantum mechanics, surprising their followers with a mix of atmospheric synth-pop and their signature violin and piano sounds.
Since then, they've been patiently working on a newly recorded version of their album Out of Sight, and a couple of new songs as well.
