Life has a funny way of making things work out, as seen by the rise of Richmond rapper P. Smoov.

The California native has always grappled with complex realities as an Afro-Latino man in the Bay Area. He dealt with a variety of experiences that molded him into the artist he is today. From combating racial and social inequalities on the one hand to surviving life on the streets on the other, he can draw from a rich history. That includes a stint in prison, where he decided to change his life and focused on sharpening his pen by writing rap lyrics and poetry.

Being able to put his most authentic talents to good use was a game-changer. He's become an advocate for promoting the importance of active fatherhood, education, and breaking the pipeline to prison present in so many communities. His music is all about unapologetically embracing yourself and being proud of who you are.

For him, that means personifying the hustle and bravado that have come to be known as Bay Area staples. His debut project Stackin' and Mackin' Vol.1 doesn't disappoint, providing bass-booming slappers and tales of street introspection alike throughout the 10 tracks. It's just the beginning of what promises to be a bright future.
