Paaste was started by Dylan L. Stuart in 2018. There were a number of demo recording sessions with friends (under different names) but ultimately Dylan ended up taking on the project since no one else was that interested in having a band. So—“Paaste” (as in toothPASTE) became Dylan’s sandbox to explore different entry points of contemporary pop, slacker rock, and gaze, largely in a subdued genre culminated in what she called “velvet pop”.
