Beginning in 2020, Paid Vacation had a humble beginning starting virtually during COVID lockdowns. What started as a demo sent between friends Ian Waldman and James Mikula, soon turned into many. The two soon decided to become Paid Vacation (taking inspiration from their background as music teachers). Many of these early songs developed into their self-titled debut E.P., released in the fall of 2021.
In 2022, the duo collaborated with producer/songwriter Grant Claytor. Their second E.P. "Memories", with lead single "Permanent Valentine", was released soon after.
After a series of live performances in the NJ/NYC area with friends Ryan Price (guitar), Joe Reo (Bass), and Derek Arnheiter (Drums), the three became permanent members of the band in the summer of 2022.
Waldman and Mikula take an approach similar to that of Lennon and McCartney—writing together with contributions from both, whether it's lyrically or musically. Their varied music taste gives them a unique sound influenced by old school and new school artists.
