The outcome varies from walls of sound like the early <a href="spotify:artist:40Yq4vzPs9VNUrIBG5Jr2i" data-name="The Smashing Pumpkins">The Smashing Pumpkins</a>, fuzzy guitars as in <a href="spotify:artist:267VY6GX5LyU5c9M85ECZQ" data-name="Dinosaur Jr.">Dinosaur Jr.</a> and unexpected melodic coolness of <a href="spotify:artist:3kbBWco9PZ5eSQsNScwG6U" data-name="Built To Spill">Built To Spill</a>.
Palila was formed in April 2019 by Matthias Schwettmann (vocals, guitars; see also <a href="spotify:artist:4u8bgj36ODOeFp0OTYJ7op" data-name="Would">Would</a> & <a href="spotify:artist:5NqvQEpIuW5CqlxzsnBNF7" data-name="Hell and High Water">Hell and High Water</a>). Christoph Kirchner (bass, backing vocals) joined from the very beginning. Manuel Tröndle (ex-<a href="spotify:artist:1eMm4uIStcxmNAfqif8DSp" data-name="Bikini Beach">Bikini Beach</a>) played drums on the first two EPs "<a href="spotify:album:1Qho2aqzse3PTXi1rBZz0r" data-name="Are We Happy Now?">Are We Happy Now?</a>" (2019) and “<a href="spotify:album:0bgF5v7fOW2rUW1eKtNbjQ" data-name="Tomorrow I'll Come Visit You and Return Your Records">Tomorrow I'll Come Visit You and Return Your Records</a>" (2020). The band released both their EPs as a double EP on vinyl in October 2020 via Kapitän Platte. In early 2021 Sascha Krüger became the new drummer of the band and they released their debut “<a href="spotify:album:2BKSwBKM1mSWx1qL6cxwYu" data-name="Rock'n'Roll Sadness">Rock'n'Roll Sadness</a>” in November 2021.
In 2022 Palila was signed by DevilDuck Records and the band played their 1st club tour. In 2023 they released their 2nd album “<a href="spotify:album:6qFMzZyRBAv85ei2LNzi6S" data-name="Mind My Mind">Mind My Mind</a>“ - accompanied by live shows and festival appearances (e.g. Orange Blossom Special and Rolling Stone Beach).
Their 3rd album Children Will Be Furious was released on April 4th, 2025, and in the coming months Palila will play several shows, including the Reeperbahn Festival on September 19th.
