paperheartsclub is an emo/pop punk band from El Paso, Texas, made up of three high schoolers who probably should be studying but are too busy writing songs about heartbreak, nostalgia, and mall parking lots. The band started in late 2023 as Scouter, a short-lived thrash metal project led by Anakin (guitar/vocals) and Cristian (drums).
For a brief and unfortunate period, the band also included Joaquin—a self-declared “singer” who couldn’t play guitar to save his life and made every rehearsal a total nightmare. He tanked the vibe, derailed the sound, and made us straight-up embarrassed to be on stage.
Thankfully, he left to start his own band, Speedway which, fittingly, sounds like a car crash.
After the split, Cristian stepped up as frontman, taking over rhythm guitar and vocals while still handling drums in the studio. With no permanent drummer, the band now performs live with drum backing tracks, giving Cristian the freedom to lead every show from the front of the stage. Jude Lozano (bass) later joined the lineup, and shaped what would become paperheartsclub.
The band ditched the drama and found their true sound blending emo, pop punk, and early 2000s alt rock with a bit of their metal roots. Their lyrics swing between poetic and painfully blunt. They’re loud, heartfelt, and proudly stupid in the best way.
They’re still early in the game, but their hometown support is slowly growing helped by their live shows in the area.
