Pasqualino Beltempo is a theatre performer born in Italy who’s been living in New York City for the past 15 years.
His first album Mediocre Excellence, also available in Italian (Eccellenza Mediocre), was mainly created during the pandemic. What better way to utilize your time while the world is ending than creating music that tells about the life you miss?
Every song is told with musical theatre flare and is as an homage to swing music and Italian and French canzone and chanson.
He loves to perform his songs alongside his very talented musicians, including @Gabriele Mastropasqua who was a big support in translating Pasqualino’s melodies and ideas into fully fledged big band compositions.
Jazz lovers will appreciate the incredible solos featured in the album by the amazingly talented pianist Antonio Simone trumpeter Antonio Fallacara, double bassist Angelo Verbena, saxophonist Gabriele Mastropasqua, and drummers Marcello Spallucci and Andrea De Santis.
Despite the nod to old school swing, Pasqualino’s take is very fresh, starting with the themes, that go from his love of pasta to his life experience in the Big Apple and doesn’t shy away from his distaste for cyber bullying and the importance of discussing social injustice.
