From the instant you hear the opening of “Different World”, the first cut on Patrick’s third studio album, you sense something new, and something different. Yet, for his fans, it also sounds familiar.
“This album is a new chapter in my life. About me growing into adulthood and sharing those ups and downs the best way I know how: through my music.” That’s how Patrick Sampson describes his latest album “Knitting Blue,” an ambitious and very personal 14-song peek into the musical diary of a young artist coming of age and maturing as a musician.
So much has happened in Patrick’s life since the release of his impressive second album, “Altrove,” in 2020: Moving out into the world on his own. Falling in love for real, and starting to tour and connecting with his growing fanbase for the first time.
Although the beautiful “Juneau” is the last song on the album, it was actually the first song Patrick wrote for this project. A song that led to an intense burst of creativity that saw him write seven songs within a month. Patrick admits that he’s never experienced a run of creativity quite like that before.
Other highlights on the album includes the very moving ballad, “Nursing Heart.” “Hotel Columbus” is a haunting song of sadness, joy, and confusion, plus two powerful songs Patrick closes his tour set with: “Do My Best,” and “Challenge Accepted (The Music Man).” Two intense, very autobiographical songs that have become fan favorites when performed live.
