Paula Akemi is a Brazilian-Japanese singer and songwriter whose music reflects her journey of self-expression and resilience. Shy as a child, she struggled to make friends and speak in public, but discovered her voice through songwriting at age 8. At 16, she moved to the UK with her family and found comfort in music while adapting to a new language and culture. From performing in church to playing the piano, Paula gained confidence and released her first single, “My Month”, during the COVID lockdown on Spotify. Since then, Paula has continued to write songs inspired by her personal experiences. Her latest track, “Shadow Woman”, tells the story of finding strength in vulnerability — a reminder that we are humans, we can be in the shadows for a long time, but even in the shadows, we can become a light for others, too. That's something she wants to share with the world; she wants her music to inspire others just like other artists did to her when she was "in the shadows".
