Singer and songwriter from Beja, Alentejo, Portugal. His name is linked to projects like Tais Quais, Baile Popular, Anonimato, Eroscópio or Mosto, most of them related to Cante Alentejano (traditional polyphonic singing from the south of Portugal, classified as World Heritage by UNESCO in 2014), a cultural expression for which Paulo Ribeiro is deeply passionat.
Tradition and innovation are also combined in “Modas de Viés”, “Canções Decantadas - Pop e Cante em fusão” and “É assim... uma espécie de Cante ”, music projects that came up as a result of the countless work he has been developing for two decades around Cante Alentejano.
"Aqui tão perto do sol" was his first solo album (2002), followed by "No silêncio das casas" (2012) and "Paulo Ribeiro - Canções 1998-2002" (2014), a homemade demo, recorded only with voice and a guitar, many of them would become part of his first album.
Also in 2014, he joins musical projects “Tais Quais” and in 2017 he released the album “O céu como tecto e o vento como lençóis” based on the poetic work of portuguese writer Manuel da Fonseca.
After "Ribeiro" (2021), whose title brings his work closer to his own essence as an Alentejo singer who knows his roots well, Paulo Ribeiro releases "Invisível a Meus Olhos" (2024). Tradition and reinvention come together in melodies where Cante Alentejano has once again a prominent place in a fusion with urban sounds that have influenced and marked his musical and artistic career.
