Grounding yet dreamy, alt-rock singer songwriter and bassist, PEJI (aka. LA Based Sage Nicole Chavis) musically paints the woes and wishes of life’s disappointments. Heavily inspired by artists like Jackson Browne, Fiona Apple, and Radiohead, PEJI’s sound transcends decades. Bordering a late 70’s songwriter stanza twisted into a modern musical attitude, she captures the sullen feelings of growing pains with an alternative bratty twist.
After a few years touring the US, UK and most of Europe playing Coachella, Lollapalooza, Reading & Leeds, and more, as well as late night performances on Conan and Jimmy Kimmel with punk rock band, The Regrettes signed to Warner Records, Sage departed from the group. Glorious Noise stated, “ Sage was the Michael Anthony secret weapon in the Regrettes… somethin that’s been missing since she’s been gone.” Continuing her career behind a bass, Sage briefly played with Winnetka Bowling League before joining Rain Pheonix and Kirk Hellie’s transcendent punk landscape, Escape Artist Lovers.
Following the excitement off of her first single, Sage quickly found a homecoming in pseudonym PEJI connecting her ties to the Yankton Sioux tribe she was born and spent the first years of life with. Hardened by her early musical accomplishments, PEJI is fixated on creating for the sake of creation, embedded in her passion for music and “turning feelings into sounds.”
