Pelagic Zone

Music, as opposed to other art forms like film, sculpture or photography, is never finished. For even when a song has been written, composed and committed to tape it still offers the opportunity for improvisation and new arrangements to be added every single time it is performed live. Why therefore should songs be regarded inflexible structures, unmovable and cast in stone?
This question summarises the musical approach of PELAGIC ZONE, an improvisational rock four-piece from Hamburg, Germany. Naturally the band play their music as it was written. But at the same time the band are constantly on the look-out for opportunities to jam and improvise, treating each note in their material as a potential diving board for extended musical excursions.
Finely arranged melodic songs alternate with or morph into spontaneous instrumental exploration. Dependent on the mood of both band and audience, the resulting free-flowing music subsequently becomes relaxed, meditative, funky, danceable, electronic, groovy or even sometimes all of the above at once.
Each PELAGIC ZONE show therefore is a unique fusion of songs, sounds, jams and moods – always new and never quite possible to anticipate.
