In a combination of traditional folk, pop and modern hip hop, Penny Black creates a progressive country universe where the vivid vocal of Monique Mai delivers beautifully crafted songs wrapped in the solid productions of Ian “Sir T” Tomkins and Esben “ES” Thornhal who have more than 30 years of experience as producers for artists like: Ed Sheeran, Dave East, Twista, Westside Connection, Kurupt, 40 Glocc, L.O.C., Suspekt, U$O, Jokeren and many more .
The lyrics walk a fine line between cinematic western scenes and epic poetry evolving around a somewhat connected storyline introducing the audience to a wide range of scenes that vary from barbaric conflicts to a picturesque funeral

“From ashes you have come
And as dust you will rise
With the smoke of a gun
Rain drops into the soil
With the ghost of deceit
Falling heavy as oil.”

The three members created their first single The Queen (live forever) inspired by a rare British stamp passed down to Ian “Sir T” Tomkins from his late grandmother, one of which became the name of the skilled group; Penny Black.
With the combination of the two very talented producers and Monique Mai’s many years on stage, touring the US as well as their home-country with her solo career, a cinematic western soundscape was created.
And what was originally thought to be over with the last tune of their first single fading out, would turn out to be the starting point of a new musical journey.
