Latest song: Conquête de la stasse
I am a self/internet taught piano student. Introduced to classical music by my siblings, a period of epiphany for me was encountering Ludovico Einaudi's music in 2012, which I would listen to over and over again for several years.
Fast forward 8 years later (2020) at 28yrs old, I am on my brother's digital piano without reasonable piano education trying to play out melodies I've been hearing for years - the herald of learning by accident. In 2021, I got a keyboard gift from my brother towards the end of my graduate school studies. I explored the keyboard and practiced daily, utilizing the internet to get tips on general piano development.
In the past couple of years, I figured out that melancholic music (romantic era or neoclassical) was my tonic sweet spot. I'd go on to learn more about harmony and music theory, as well as musical notation from textbooks; still I struggled with disciplined piano education. I would learn 10 measures of Chopin Bflat minor nocturne, but lack motivation to complete or even learn other pieces. However, I found joy improvising melancholic music very often on the piano, often pulling out my phone to record before playing.
I am now challenging myself to notate my pile of improvised music, and learn to play them, as my way of learning where it felt like a struggle. I intend to share my writing and development journey along the way.
