Hailing from St. Louis, Missouri, Owens was first introduced to music in the same place as many before him - in the church. His love of the artform quickly grew, eventually spanning an array of genres and generations. Owens cites an eclectic list of influences, ranging from the likes of Aretha Franklin to contemporary powerhouses such as Kanye West and Bruno Mars. Last year, Owens won the Konvict Kartel Showcase, an event hosted by the independent record label Akon in Atlanta, Georgia. Lauded by the judges, one of which was the legendary producer Rico Wade of Dungeon Family, Owens was given the push he needed to decide to pursue his craft independently.
