Pesüs [which is Persian for "Lantern"] is a project by Mehmet Korkmaz & Yiğit Tornacı to perform impressionistic, jazz-oriented music. Their debut album, Balkonda Deniz, reflects a poetic discourse of imaginary landscapes. On an October evening, Korkmaz and Tornacı got together to discuss their compositions and were inspired to pursue the Pesüs concept. From a list of musical sketches, they began expanding on each other’s compositions. Their initial impulse was to channel the abstract, expansive poetic imagery of the Turkish "Ikinci Yeni" school into musical language. This process led the group on an impressionistic, minimalist journey of anemoia, traveling along rhythmic, melodic, and sometimes lyrical narratives.
