Since forming in Stockholm in 1999, Peter Bjorn and John have spent over a quarter-century refining a collaborative approach that has made them one of Sweden’s most enduring musical exports, releasing nine studio albums that explore the intersections of indie-pop and experimental rock.
The band’s endurance is rooted in a collaborative recording process, a method they highlighted during the sessions for their 2020 album Endless Dream. "We realized we wanted to cut the crap, so we rehearse songs in the same room and record together," Yttling states. Morén describes the resulting output as a balance of "light to the darkness—the day to the night."
After decades of working together, the members characterize their relationship as familial. "People around us say that we don’t act like friends—we act like brothers," Morén reflects. "It can be very creative, and we’re nicer to each other than we used to be."
Despite their established history, the trio remains focused on new material. "To have a band for over twenty years is a type of madness itself," Eriksson says. "There’s a lot of stuff we’ve just gotten started with. You never know when you’re gonna hit gold, and you’re never finished—so you just need to keep going."
