Peter Kernel is an art pop post punk band formed in 2005 by Swiss graphic designer Aris Bassetti and Canadian filmmaker Barbara Lehnhoff. The two met in visual communications school in Switzerland and quickly launched the band and their own label On The Camper Records receiving a lot of interest and comparisons to <a href="spotify:artist:5UqTO8smerMvxHYA5xsXb6" data-name="Sonic Youth">Sonic Youth</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:5isqImG0rLfAgBJSPMEVXF" data-name="Blonde Redhead">Blonde Redhead</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:6zvul52xwTWzilBZl6BUbT" data-name="Pixies">Pixies</a>.
In 2008 they release their debut album How To Perform A Funeral and were invited by <a href="spotify:artist:0XSqX2PB3C5dTMv7SZaxSm" data-name="Wolf Parade">Wolf Parade</a> to open their European tour.
In the past years Peter Kernel have played over 800 concerts across Europe and Canada sharing the stage with artists such as <a href="spotify:artist:34UhPkLbtFKRq3nmfFgejG" data-name="Mogwai">Mogwai</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1J4ACYB6yMqd79q3rjskqs" data-name="Thurston Moore">Thurston Moore</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3bw0A7x5AgdJsK20ai5iS6" data-name="Other Lives">Other Lives</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6M5FR3JkFFVDkgwtO6Vtz6" data-name="Micah P. Hinson">Micah P. Hinson</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:6G7OerKc3eBO9sVkRNopFC" data-name="Cat Power">Cat Power</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:56ZTgzPBDge0OvCGgMO3OY" data-name="Beach House">Beach House</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0d7aBBLFcc4dlETnae6zcH" data-name="WHY?">WHY?</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:0otAqZw8htTsGHfqR491Yh" data-name="Sleaford Mods">Sleaford Mods</a> and many more.
In 2016 they were nominated for the Swiss Music Grand Prix.
In 2017 they were nominated as Best Live Act at the Swiss Live Talents. The same year they started an orchestral version of the band called Peter Kernel & Their Wicked Orchestra, rearranging their songs for piano, harp, cello, harmonium and viola.
On March 9th 2018 they released their 4th Album entitled 'The Size Of The Night'.
On December 2020 they celebrated 15 years of Peter Kernel releasing “Perseverance”, a collection of unreleased songs, demos and early versions.
