‘Phases of' is the shared vision of Aidan Stojsavljevic and Aidan Gallagher, based in Coventry. The band name was inspired by Ann Teresa De Keersmaeker's innovative contemporary dance piece 'Fase, Four Movements' to the Music of Steve Reich. Using this as a shared point of interest in both progressive and repetitive movement, it forms a major inspiration to the band; with other major influences including the music of artists such as John McLaughlin, Talking Heads, and Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band.
Their approach to creating music starts from an improvisational piece, and from that, an idea or expression that either is passionate about is forced upon the original idea. Motifs and movements then pass through several phases of development and augmentation such as changes in tempo, time signature, tuning and key, till it forms a sinuous net that captures and springs to life their feelings.
