Phonoboy is the solo project by songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Christian Hoeck. He’s half french, half German. It is a constantly changing project.
Founded as a duo in the early 2000s by Christian and DJ “Weyssi“, Phonoboy developed a sound of classic songwriting meeting loops, power pop meeting electronic music – a unique mixture not following any rules, which was also true for the lyrics, which included French, English and German.
In 2002, the first release was “C’est ma vie” on legendary Munich club Atomic Café’s “French Cuts 2” compilation. It received worldwide airplay and was immediately picked for other compilations. The debut album „Très chic, Trashig“ (2005) got nominated for a music prize in Germany. Phonoboy was presented on Arte Tracks and toured as a four-piece Germany with „Nouvelle Vague“ in 2006/2007. Second album „Pas de temps“ was released on Franke Popp’s label TV Eye Records in 2007. „This Is Not A Band“ comes out in 2010 on Smarten Up Records and then Phonoboy launched his own Label „1969ok! Records“ to release the album „Obsession“ in 2013.
Christian starts also another band in 2015 "Les Millionnaires".
In 2020 Phonoboy has become a real solo project and the fifth Album „Love and let die“ is a singer-songwriter-Americana album mixed with Indie-Folkpop songs. Phonoboy starts to play solo live shows in 2021. The single „Sunday, Sunday“ was released in 2024 and Phonoboy works in his Telstarstudio on new songs for album number six.
