Sitting down for the first time in front of a black piano makes you feel very small, intimidated, before taming the object, its mechanics, and being carried away by its power. Philippe Larvor and Nicolas Garnier share this childhood memory of what will soon become their favorite instrument. No classical music school, but a true gluttony for the black and white keys. Pianos, synthesizers, samplers, will always be present in the musical shocks that the two musicians lived, discovering over the years the albums of Jean-Michel Jarre and John Williams, then Depeche Mode, Sigur Ros, and more recently Jon Hopkins and Max Richter.
Shocks are often mentioned with Piano Noir. Those between two songwritings, acoustic and electronic. And those from movie pictures and atmospheric tv series that inspire the two acolytes.
In 2017, Piano Noir released a Radiohead cover, "Burn the witch", for the Piano Day, which led the duet to a first 5 tracks EP in November. Then, the musical universe was set, associating a catchy piano and electronic flights.
Several tracks followed, notably with "Escape" and its piano loops, and the mysterious "Paraza" (remixed by the Brest native <a href="spotify:artist:2K6qB6CuPH0J9FAz8fx0pV" data-name="François Joncour">François Joncour</a>) which quickly joined the live setlist.
In December 2021 the duet released an electronic rework of an <a href="spotify:artist:6811GEOzZlD8ILi15xUpbN" data-name="Ô Lake">Ô Lake</a> piano piece, "The Walk".
The new EP "Polarity" has been released by Night-Night Records the 10th June 2022.
