Pigeon John (born John Kenneth Dunkin) is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter known for his charismatic blend of alternative hip-hop, melodic hooks, and quirky, introspective lyricism. Emerging from the Los Angeles underground scene of 'The Good Life' in the mid-1990s, he first made waves as a founding member of the hip-hop collective L.A. Symphony before launching a distinct solo career that fused funk, indie-pop, and old-school rap.
Raised in Hawthorne, California, Pigeon John developed his musical voice through local open mics and early collaborations with groups like Brainwash Projects. His breakout came with the 2001 solo debut Pigeon John Is Clueless, which set the tone for his signature style—fun-loving yet thoughtful, spiritual without being preachy, and always laced with clever wordplay.
Over the next two decades, Pigeon John carved a unique lane in hip-hop with acclaimed albums like ...Is Dating Your Sister (2003), And the Summertime Pool Party (2006), and Dragon Slayer (2010), the latter gaining international attention for the single “The Bomb.” His music has been featured in major ad campaigns (Motorola, Volkswagen, Ritz, Playstation, etc.), TV shows, and video games, expanding his reach far beyond traditional hip-hop circles.
Though often associated with Christian hip-hop due to his roots, he defies easy categorization. His work speaks more to the human condition—joy, doubt, relationships, identity—delivered with honesty, humor, and a head-nodding groove.
