Pike Band emerged from Chicago's indie rock scene in the late '90s. The band attributed their sound as part tribute to '70s classic rock and part reaction to the alternative rock of the era. Rock n Roll Wasteland was the first and only album they recorded, released in 2002. The band infamously broke up right after the record was released, due to a dispute over the final version of the album. Though the band's saxophonist co-wrote all of the songs, his recorded sax parts were secretly removed by his bandmates during a drunken mixdown session on all but one track (Vibraslap Man, a song about a guy who doesn't fit in the band but is allowed to play in it anyways). The band has since mended fences, but plans for a reunion have never materialized.
