Pit or Portal

Pit or Portal is an experimental ambient duo featuring James JIMS Lehner, founding drummer of legendary instrumental post-rock group: <a href="spotify:artist:3oglFEsE6GvwwJFConxKa5" data-name="Tristeza">Tristeza</a> and Juan OSO Betancourt who has been prolific in Mexico’s post-rock / experimental / improvisation art scene. The self-titled debut album was conceived during JIMS extended stay in Puebla, Mexico while visiting OSO’s Kombucha brewery before the pandemic hit. Pit or Portal has performed numerous times in Mexico and finally had the chance to record these ambient post-rock experimental pieces born out of the emotions of the times and the cultural/life-experience of these two friends. Pit or Portal follow an analog approach to their recordings, using various instruments such as melodica, Roland cr-100 drum machine, old casio keyboard, digridu, mridangam and bass. The 13 tracks on their self-titled release take the listener on an introspective journey influenced not only by OSO and JIMS history in multi-country indie rock art scenes but also by their passion for metal and obscure punk.
