Hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Plagues was formed in 2014 amongst the growing scene of Ohio based metalcore bands. Formed by Tyler Bunch (guitar), Korey Layton (guitar), Cody Reck (bass), Jeff Caudill (vocals), and Garrett Crawford (drums), they sought to create technical metal music that challenged their playing abilities.
In 2015 they began playing shows locally around Ohio, and released their debut EP, self produced at Dead Sparrow Productions called “The Forsaken”, which sold copies in 9 different countries without support of a label.
Plagues continued to play shows throughout Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana areas in 2016 opening for bands like Death Of An Era, Darkness Divided, Denihilist, Kyle Lucas, Black Crown Initiate and more. Early that same year they released the song “Erotic Friend Fiction”, featuring Eternal Void vocalist Logan Adams.
2017 saw vocalist Jeff and Tyler leave the band on good terms, and former Hunters Chase vocalist Eddie Knight (current vocalist for Deadculture and bass player for You vs Yesterday) joined the band to perform vocals for their new track “Fractal”. Tyler recorded and produced the song at Dead Sparrow Productions.
At the end of 2017, Plagues went into hiatus, but Tyler, Korey and Garrett began slowly writing again in 2018. Through the 2020 pandemic, the trio began recording from home portions of a soon to be album for what they hoped would be a reunion. Later that year, they brought in vocalist Kennith Whitt.
