Plastique Boutique is the experimental project of musician and songwriter Owen Liversidge, a University of Leeds graduate in Popular Music Studies. Active since his teens, Owen grew restless with the rinse-and-repeat of traditional recording. Seeking new inspiration, he turned to emerging technologies to ask: what happens if music written by hand is reimagined entirely by machines?
The result is fully synthetic music: electronic beats, sequenced synths, and AI-driven vocals. Songs often begin on guitar or paper, but end up transformed through sequencing, programming, and voice synthesis. Drawing on influences from Jean-Michel Jarre, Vangelis, Kraftwerk, Gary Numan, Madonna, and Kate Bush, the sound is both familiar and futuristic — nostalgic yet forward-looking. AI even reimagines Owen’s vocals in new timbres and genders, reshaping them to suit each track’s mood.
Plastique Boutique embraces music history while pushing it forward — not to replace human artistry, but to explore new creative possibilities. This is music that honours the past while experimenting with the future. Step into the sound of tomorrow.
