Out of sunny Rio de Janeiro and now based in São Paulo, Brazil, “Plucking Wings” is the solo project by João Miguel from the electronic duo "The Twelves". Unlike The Twelves, Plucking Wings has a more organic approach and, instead of synths, it's focussed on guitars which has always been João's main instrument. "I always wanted to do a project like this and I finally have the ways to do such thing on my own.”, he says. He writes all the lyrics, sings, plays and records all instruments, edits, mixes and masters all by myself in his studio. He even does all the artwork. “Doing absolutely everything is quite insane, but it gives you absolute control over your vision which can be quite rewarding once it’s finished.”, he adds.
The "Plucking Wings" sound is a mixture of João’s old and new references, which are: Beatles, Radiohead, Smashing Pumpkins (from the 90s!), Of Montreal, REM, Jacco Garder, Real Estate, Tame Impala, Toro y Moi, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Chris Cohen, Connan Mockasin, Foxygen, Sean Lennon, Ariel Pink, Alan Parsons, Pink Floyd, Temples, to name a few.
