For the past two decades, Pong Nan has been as one of Hong Kong’s most prolific musicians writing career-defining hits for superstars and his younger peers, while recording and performing as one of Cantopop’s most critically-acclaimed singer-songwriters.

Pong’s unique sense of melody and poignant lyrics, along with his unmistakable voice and unabashed personality, has made him a performer embraced by music lovers and critics. His “The Unadorable Pong Nan” and “Almost Happy” documented the melancholic piano-heavy alt-pop-rock early days, as he dived headfirst into 80’s disco retro and underwent a complete image makeover in his “Hao Feng Guang” era, not to mention the mature yet sentimental sounds and writings during his “Grace & Beauty” and “Caress” period that came after.

In 2014, Pong started his battle with crippling anxiety and depression, which brought along an array of physical ailments. He stepped out of the limelight, and entered a nearly 7-year hiatus. He spent two years in Canada, his second home, throwing himself into an uneasy healing process.

Now in 2021, Pong feels it’s time to make his eagerly-awaited comeback after recovery. He’s rebooted, and returns with new music and a new attitude. He has set up his own production label to gain utmost control over his music career, which allows him to be unapologetic and honest on topics and issues. A “new” veteran is re-joining Cantopop with dashing new tracks to be added to his oeuvre that stands the test of time.
