Pony Jones, "PJ," has worn many hats in his 12-year tenure in the South African music industry. Whether as the frontman of the indie folk group "The George," a rapper in the underground hip-hop duo "Parkiegra$," or the drummer and vocalist in the punk outfit "Shongololo," PJ has entertained and captivated audiences across local stages with his authentic stage personality and heartfelt songwriting.
Teaming up with the long-time Pretoria music scene veteran Jaco Naudé as a manager, the duo set out for one last Hail Mary attempt at a solo career and work in some touring, either before the world ends or they become too old, whichever comes first.
Pony Jones' sound can be described as moody indie rock, with gentle and soulful vocals layered over 2000s-inspired guitar textures, with subtle nods to artists like The War On Drugs, Bleachers, and Death Cab for Cutie.
PJ’s first offering to the world is a release called "One," featuring three songs about love, regret, and impermanence. "One" is available on all streaming platforms as of March 22, 2024, along with a music video on YouTube for the first single "Burn Out."
