Portabello were a 4-piece rock band originating from Leeds, England.
Founding members were Declan Corcoran (vocals, acoustic guitar), Michelle Shay (vocals), Tim Canfer (electric guitar), Luke Slowen (bass) and Dean Johnson (drums). Their first live show was at the Mean Fiddler, London in 1998. Songs from this era form the Incandescent collection.
In 2000, Mark Staton joined on drums and Portabello continued as a 4-piece, with a shift to heavier, more progressive songwriting. 2001 saw a limited release of the Mercury EP, generating interest from US/UK labels and management. Notable performances followed at The Borderline and The Kashmir Klub (hosted by ex-<a href="spotify:artist:3cniTumSiUysiPWXapGx1i" data-name="Cutting Crew">Cutting Crew</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1L5GuGyT1mEEgfQw4ukhVq" data-name="Tony Moore">Tony Moore</a>) in London and The Cavern Club in Liverpool.
With ex-Perfume front man, Mick McCarthy, Portabello hosted the Launch Pad night in Leeds - a haunt for Leeds glitterati of the time, including 10,000 Things (with Sam Riley), the <a href="spotify:artist:0LbLWjaweRbO4FDKYlbfNt" data-name="Kaiser Chiefs">Kaiser Chiefs</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:50pOaCojdsMtsow9e9fmmb" data-name="Hope and Social">Hope and Social</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:4pnoPxaNlSiiQ6Lhjg2Wpe" data-name="Mik Artistik's Ego Trip">Mik Artistik's Ego Trip</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:23NfVLyr82nCgRqjbjav8g" data-name="Alex Haynes">Alex Haynes</a>.
In 2002, Portabello released their debut album, Once Around The Sun, through their own record label, Armchair Records. A UK acoustic tour of Borders bookshops followed, sparking interest from several independent record labels.
Portabello released Intacto as a single in 2004. 3 live tracks recorded on the BBC Raw Talent show were later added to form the Intacto EP. On the same show, they picked up the accolade for 'best local gig of 2004'.
In 2005, the band went their separate ways.
