Practicing Sincerity is a Santa Cruz, California-based rock band centered around the songwriting of singer and guitarist Liv Kaproff (they/them). Originally conceived as a solo project, Practicing Sincerity began playing shows and releasing bedroom recordings in 2015 before blooming into a band in 2016, and has featured a rotating cast of members since. Kaproff’s lyrics paint photo-realistic portraits of a person struggling with depression and trying to understand their place in the world, or at least in a local community, while their blend of indie-pop, post-punk, shoegaze, and emo invites you to dance it off and punctuates these sentiments with fuzzed out guitar solos. Rowdy, explosive indie punk songs co-habitate with swirling, dream pop-like textures and melodies. Drawing strong influence from alt-rock legends like Rilo Kiley and Built to Spill as well as more recent bands like LVL UP and Joyce Manor, Practicing Sincerity covers a wide sonic spectrum.
