PRINCI is the Sydney-based artist name of Gina Karlikoff.
At the core of her work is a fascination with data, intimacy and excess. And how our emotions entangle with these.
Previously known as Kimchi Princi, PRINCI quickly became renowned for a unique blend of rave, auto-tune pop and experimental club paired with unapologetic sexuality (“not getting any D I’m chasing salary”), embracing her South Korean-Russian heritage (“saranghaeyo 사랑해요 - I love you - means nothing”), and relationships built on wi-fi (“swipe right, see the light”).
Slicing Shadows, her second-EP, sees PRINCI question the trappings of luxury and excess that were given reverence in her earlier work. For PRINCI, to slice shadows is to dissolve the distractions of endless consumption – “to excavate the noise and find strength in the silence beneath.”
PRINCI has been invited to play clubs and festivals within Australia and Asia – from Asian Dope Boys’ parties in Hong Kong to South Korea’s Cakeshop and more.
In Sydney, PRINCI hosts the event CLUB PRINCI to spotlight queer and trans artists of colour.
