Project Vainiolla

The Finnish multi-artist and multi-instrumentalist Kalle Vainio, who performs under the artist name of Project Vainiolla, deals with Nordic natural phenomena in his art, which he interprets through various instruments such as a prepared piano, toy pianos, tape machines and a modular synthesizer. The music is often simple and minimal, focusing on repetition and subtle changes.


"If you take a look at the running water in nature you might just think it's something you already know, but it's not. If you know how to name something, it doesn't mean that you truly know what it is. That's why observing, listening and watching can always teach you something new about the subject itself, and also reveal something new about the observer."


Project Vainiolla has released three solo albums: Nocturnal (2017), Metamorphosis (2016) and Animus (2015) and one ensemble album Suruvesi (2018). He has performed at major festivals (including Flow Festival Helsinki, Lux Helsinki and Musica Nova) and has been selected as a showcase artist for Classical:Next and Tallinn Music Week.
