PRTLND knows how challenging it is to go against what your upbringing, your environment or society dictates.
“It took me over 20 years to really consider myself an artist” says Mathieu Cote, a rock one-man-band based in Dublin (Ireland) who only started to release his songs to the public in 2022 under the moniker PRTLND.
“The pandemic helped me, like it did a lot of people, reassess what I really wanted out of my life and I knew that music had to be at the center”.
“I wanted to break through that layer of fear that was just outside of my comfort zone, that was the only way to keep growing as a human being”, says Mathieu who considers PRTLND as both a coming of age and a mid-life crisis.
"Not often you can get to the nub of a track at the first listen but in this case, PRTLND have infused ‘Into The Distance’ with an immediacy. This characteristic makes for thrills that are easily won and I can see how it would stack up pretty well at the top of our ‘Fresh Indie 2022’ playlist on Soundcloud" - mp3hugger
“Humble about his lyrical prowess, we will go ahead and be the ones to tell it how it is: brilliant. The words of his music are carefully strung together and the ways in which they meld with the music seems effortlessly combined in raw authenticity. His latest release, ‘Burnt Out’ is a poetic requiem for love that became lost and wasted on time. ‘Burnt Out’ is what happens when nostalgia hurts. “ - YMX Blog
