From early scrappy artistry to sharply precise music productions, pseudo-antigone is the experimental pop and hyperpop project of philosopher and interdisciplinary artist Simone Atenea Medina Polo. Since 2020, the project has been a site of experimentation and learning in music production, mixing, and mastering eventually paving the way for detailed and meticulous sound design that leans into metallic synth textures, loud fuzzy basses, and punchy beats characterizing her most recent releases.
In 2021, pseudo-antigone gained considerable attention for her first LP Into the Void of Infinite Sadness . The album gained coverage in Exclaim! Magazine’s “Emerging Artists You Need to Hear” section in May 2021 as well as front page coverage in an in-depth interview with Fish Griwkowsky for the Edmonton Journal. Recently, pseudo-antigone returned to the spotlight starting with an appearance at Edmonton’s Purple City Festival in 2024 for a show presented by Reverie Magazine (as covered by Fish Griwkowsky in the Edmonton Journal) as well as the release of her third album lovers (confusing and messy is what i am here for) (2025) which gained praise by Cups N Cakes Network’s Jeff MacCallum as the album climbed the college radio charts in Edmonton and nationally — notably hitting #1 for CJSR’s Electronic Top 10 (March 11 2025 and March 18 2025), #2 CJSR’s Top 30 (March 18 2025), and #8 earshot’s National Electronic Chart (March 11 2025).
