Gainesville, Florida’s PUPAL looms as the most promising progressive post metal force to emerge from the oppressive swamps of the central Floridian peninsula. With influences like Katatonia, Mastodon, Opeth, and Tool as well as more modern acts such as The Ocean, Karnivool, and Glasgow Coma Scale, PUPAL pulls from a diversity of influences in their pursuit of heavy, thought-provoking, and rhythmically-driven music.
Their sonic temple is built upon a core philosophy of undeniable groove; through the extensive use of syncopation and polyrhythm, PUPAL consistently guides listeners through an ever-deepening pocket which rejects all attempts to ignore it and which rewards the audience with a uniquely profound sense of unity.
From this foundation spring the pillars of the guitar, drums, and bass; each of which explores the sonic spaces between the pocket while still providing the wrought iron framework onto which the filigree of insistently melancholic synthesizers is woven. The halls of PUPAL’s sonic temple hang thick with an atmosphere of wide-ranging, dynamic vocals spanning a chasm from inescapably haunting to blisteringly visceral as they explore themes of growth, development, and the agony that accompanies these intense personal journeys.
Following the release of their debut EP “Ecdysis,” the band seeks to solidify their audience in the Southeastern United States before expanding to nationwide tours.
